Bill Brookman has a lifetime’s experience as an actor and director in theatre, television and film with a parallel catalogue of humanitarian projects in some of the most difficult areas of the world. He has toured Japan 10 times, taught circus in tough schools in New York and ran a pro-peace project for the United Nations in Haiti’s notorious slums. He combines the knowledge this has brought him with his skill as a teacher, performer and presenter and his fascination with social structures.
Set out below are a selection of workshops and corporate team-building exercises never to be forgotten for their impact and innovation.
Coping with Complexity
Using humour and amazingly versatile musical ability Bill collapses a room into laughter as they empathise with him in his efforts to play a One Man Band. Stories, insights, and philosophy accompany his participatory workshop as delegates realise that perhaps their own difficulties at work can he halved if shared with Bill’s hilarious predicaments. - Watch out for the twist at the end!
Zen Juggling
Bill uses experience learned whilst living in a Japanese temple and attitudes of Japanese archery when disarming armed gangs for the United Nations. He combines these experiences with his enthusiasm for Goya Raru – the Tibetan martial art based on the body being the path to the mind. All these strands come together in his Zen Juggling Workshop – an enlightened approach to problem solving in business as well as a fun, spiritual, relaxing and bonding experience for all involved.
Dissecting Risk Assessment
After weighing the options Bill renounced his UN security status in order to liaise directly with the armed slum-gangs of Haiti. (Continues below...)
Via the succeeding gun-battles, and in his experiences in post-earthquake India, aerialist work in post-war Kosovo and fire-eating with war-crime amputation victims in Sierra Leone Bill gained a unique perspective on risk assessment.
Bill will use humour, performance and his own approaches to mathematical modeling, statistics and even chaos theory to cut through obfuscation to deliver a precise, intense comprehension of the perils, limitations and pitfalls of risk assessment in a risk-averse society. Participants should leave with a unique insight into risk assessment which, allied to more conventional risk assessment study, results in an enhanced and holistic comprehension of this ever-present subject.
Comprehending Social Groups - leading the business team
Bill has taught circus skills to students in Brooklyn, stage-sword-fighting in Brixton and has run drugs projects throughout Britain. He combines these experiences with his knowledge of classic business models – often revealing their hidden agendas - to provide a fascinating and informative primer for understanding and, more importantly, applying this knowledge in the context of teams. The workshop is fun, challenging and practical but with a back-bone of diligent research.
The Art of War
This is not Sun Tzu the classic Chinese writer but Bill Brookman’s selection of fun, challenging and exhilarating team-games and bonding exercises. All workshops are open to all of any ability or disability. The list is inexhaustible as Bill likes to tailor-make projects to order. But popular favourites are:
Cannon Drill
Cannon drill was perfected from the 16th to the 19th centuries to surmount the stresses of battle. Participants will learn a drill on a realistic firing – but perfectly safe - reproduction cannon. A great team exercise which concentrates the mind and exhilarates the senses!
Stage-Sword-Fighting
How the professional do it. The techniques of the grandfather of British film and stage fight director Bill Hobbs. As taught to ex-rioters after the troubles in Brixton in the 1980s.
